California Dental Insurance – Braces

Friday, Nov. 26th 2021

Question: I am told I need braces, I wondering for how long.  I do not really want them and if I have to have them would like it to be for a short period of time.

Answer:  Ask the orthodontic dentist that you are seeing. He/She can normally tell how long they think it would take. If you have not yet seen an orthodontic then I would suggest looking for one that can give you a free consul

CA Dental Insurance – Oral Cancer Screen – What You Can Expect.

Saturday, Oct. 16th 2021

When you go to your dentist and he/she dose an oral cancer screening exam, your dentist will look over the inside of your mouth to check for red or white patches or mouth sores. Using gloved hands, your dentist will also feels the tissues in your mouth to check for lumps or other abnormalities.     If your dentist spot any lumps or other abnormalities they may use special tests in addition to the oral exam to screen for oral cancer. It is not clear if these tests offer any additional benefit over the oral exam. Special oral cancer screening tests may involve:

  • Rinsing your mouth with a special blue dye before an exam. Abnormal cells in your mouth may take up the dye and appear blue.
  • Shining a light in your mouth during an exam. The light makes healthy tissue appear dark and makes abnormal tissue appear white.

Thursday, Oct. 14th 2021

It is important to know that oral cancer screening can not detect all mouth cancers. It can be difficult to detect areas of abnormal cells just by looking at your mouth, so it is possible that a small cancer or precancerous lesion could still go undetected.

Why Have An Oral Cancer Screening – California Dental Insurance

Monday, Oct. 11th 2021

The goal of oral cancer screening is to detect mouth cancer or precancerous lesions that may lead to mouth cancer at an early stage. When cancer or lesions are found at the early stage they are easier to remove and have a larger chance of being cured.

Although no studies have proven that oral cancer screening saves lives, Some groups agree about the benefits of an oral exam for oral cancer screening where as other do not.

Yet people with a high risk of oral cancer may be more likely to benefit from oral cancer screening. Risk factors that can increase your risk of oral cancer include:

  • Tobacco use of any kind, including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco and snuff, among others
  • Heavy alcohol use
  • Previous oral cancer diagnosis
  • History of significant sun exposure, which increases the risk of lip cancer
Ask your dentist whether oral cancer screening is appropriate for you.

Abscessed Tooth and Dental Insurance – California Dental Insurance

Thursday, Sep. 30th 2021

Question: I not completely sure but I think I may have an abscessed tooth.  I do not current have dental insurance and with the cost of dental care I been putting off going to the dentist because I do not have the money for treatment.  Not sure what I can do but I am having some pain issues now.

Answer: Sadly deferring dental care is never a good idea since as you can see it generally only leads to larger and yes more costly dental care treatment.  Yet you still have some options left too you.

1) you can buy a low cost dental discount plan. They run around $10.00 a month. These plans will help reduce your dental care cost at plan providers.  They also normally are effective the next business day which is important since you should see a dentist right away before your infection start to spread and cause not only oral health issues but over all health problems.

2) You can buy a lower cost HMO insurance plan like a discount plan you will need to go to plan providers but they normally will not have any plan waiting periods which is what you will want. However generally they are not effective until the next month of the month you are buying it in. Though they all have different cut off dates so make sure you know before buying the effective date so you can make a dental appointment right away.

3) You can see about going to a dental school.  If you have any local dental schools near you this is a good way to get much lower cost dental care.  However, you may not be able to get in right way so that is something you will need to look into.

4) See if there are any dental clinics near you.  generally dental clinics provide their dental treatment services at a lower cost.  Sometime their prices are based on what you can afford to pay.
